Hubby and I drove to Charlotte to visit our son this weekend and took rt 221 over Bent MTN through Floyd Co and Carroll County and hit Fancy Gap via interstate 77. Lots of winding roads and great farm stands! The views were out of this world. That's some beautiful country through there. Pics of some of it... Fancy Gap going down on 77 |

Coming back today...Bent MTN Road....at this hairy S turn right before you take a right off of this road to drive up to our home, was a terrible wreck last year where someone drove through the barrier and landed up in the top of our property and died. So sad. The first responders spent hours on the backside of our property. This road is something else. |

Big Walker Mountain through there is heavenly and huge. Took us forever to get home today as there were two really bad wrecks on Big Walker and one was a truck totally turned over on its side. It always happens up there. Just hoping everyone was okay. The truck escape ramps are something else in case the brakes fail on trucks it is so bad and steep. I was holding my breath. Bella our dog was snoring in the back seat as usual. |

The views are great! The county is really good about getting that road cleared in bad weather. But, I'm not going to drive on it!!! It's bad enough without snow. |

Whenever I hear of Big Walker, I remember talking to a now retired executive from General Motors in Michigan. He distinctly remembered exiting the BW tunnel and seeing the sign " Welcome to Wild, Wonderful West Virginia". Apparently, he then fell asleep and when he awakened, he was at the 22-mile marker. I guess he must have been in one of the self-driving prototypes. Not sure, bur scary. That's a white-knuckle drive, too. Yes, Fancy Gap is beautiful ad brutally windy in the winter. |

I see some rentals up there; most of them have a decent price. It would be interesting to see that view for more than a few minutes driving through. Hey, I'm looking! |
