Melania Trump has been hit by bizarre body double rumours after attending the funeral of Pope Francis with husband Donald Trump. As the First Lady paid her respects in Rome over the weekend, critics suggested a body double was standing in for Melania and it wasn’t actually her in attendance.
This isn’t the first time the conspiracy theory has emerged online, with the so-called ‘Fake Melania’ rumours first gaining momentum during Trump’s first presidency. Back in 2017, some social media users pointed out alleged differences in Melanie’s appearance, speculating something was amiss about her look with some suggesting a body double was occasionally standing in for her.

In response to the resurfaced rumours, body language expert, Dr Beth Dawson, has spoken exclusively to the Mirror to discuss Melania Trump's resurfacing body double theory. "The notion of her body double gained traction after certain public events where some observers noted differences in Melania's appearance, such as changes in facial features or mannerisms. Everything is possible, but it’s unlikely," she said.
"These theories often have little to no credible evidence and are largely based on anecdotal observations or selective interpretations of photos and videos.
"People also tend to think they know people in the public eye, but the reality is very different. The public cannot really know what’s going on in Melania’s private life."

She added: "The reason people speculate is very much linked to themes such as authenticity and public representation. And especially in this era of AI where things can be easily manipulated, the public is wary and sceptical."
However, she says there are many reasons why someone may look different. Beth noted: "Like everyone, Melania Trump has naturally aged since she became a public figure. Changes in skin, hair, and facial contours are normal as people grow older, and these changes can impact one's overall appearance.
"The use of makeup, hair styling, and fashion choices can significantly alter a person's appearance. High-profile individuals often work with professional makeup artists and stylists who create looks that may differ from what one would normally see in casual settings.
"Variations in makeup techniques, hair colour, and wardrobe can lead to noticeable differences in appearance over time and from event to event."
Factors such as health conditions, diet, and stress can impact a person's appearance and expressions too. "The pressures of being in the public eye, especially during politically charged times, can influence physical attributes and expressions due to stress or lifestyle changes," she added.
Melania's expressions may vary depending on the context of the situation, her comfort level, and her mood.
The expert explained: "People naturally express themselves differently depending on the circumstances, and public events often come with varying levels of pressure and scrutiny, which can affect how someone appears and behaves.
"It isn’t the first time the body doubles have been suspected in high-profile people. It was said that Fidel Castro used a body double and even Julius Caesar.
"Whether Melania has just aged, changed her make-up and is having an emotionally charged day or if she really has a body double continues to keep people talking."
